An Ascension Proposal
Back at the end of September, I got an e-mail from Alan Gerding with an unusual subject line: “An Ascension Marriage Proposal.” Intrigued, I opened it up and learned that Alan wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Crystol Shelton, using the game they love to play together--Ascension! We jumped at the opportunity, and quickly set to work making it happen.
As luck would have it, we were just getting ready to have another run of cards printed, so the only real hurdle to making Alan's request a reality was deciding what he wanted. Eric Sabee came through like he always does, creating a piece featuring the couple done in the Lifebound style (Alan and Crystol’s favorite faction!).
Alan took care of providing the exact description of the card he wanted, and our art team made it a reality! We ended up with Ring of Gerd, which Alan planned to slip into a copy of Ascension: Storm of Souls to pop the question!
Luckily, Alan also got the whole thing on tape, so we all get to see the look on Crystol's face when she realized just what was going on:
In addition to making the card a reality for Alan and Crystol, we wanted to celebrate the event in some special way. We decided to make a parallel card that we could give out at Game Days to celebrate the occasion: Ring of Life!
Ring of Life will be available at Game Day locations around the country this February. We hope everyone will join us in offering Alan and Crystol our congratulations and wishing them a long and happy life together! Thanks for letting us play a small part in such a big event in your lives!
